Cockermouth nestles between the mountains and the sea, you are only a short drive to the spectacular scenery of the English Lake District and to the wild and unspoilt Solway Firth. The town is steeped in history with its own castle, ancient market place and interesting buildings. The birthplace of William Wordsworth is located next door to the hotel and Dove Cottage, Wordworths home in the lakes is only a short drive away. Other famous names born here include Fletcher Christian, first mate on the "Bounty" under the notorious Captain Bligh and the famous astronomer Fearon Fallows.
The Trout Hotel has been at the centre of this attractive market town for many years. Dating from circa 1670 the hotel was originally built as a private residence belonging to the local Egremont Estate, and has been extended over the years before becoming a hotel in 1934. The 1960's saw the hotel established as the sport of fishing became increasingly popular on the Rivers Derwent and Cocker, now famous for their excellent trout and salmon fishing.
The hotel has been privately owned by the same family for over 14 years, they have continually invested in the fabric of the building which now offers 49 superbly appointed bedrooms, three dining experiences, The Rosette Awarded Derwent restaurant, Terrace Bistro & Bar and attractive luxurious lounges and bar.
You will enjoy the relaxing atmosphere created by the special relationship between staff, management and guests. Many of our team have served at the hotel for over 10 years helping create the unique ambience you will experience.
We hope you enjoy your stay.
